Biography
     Originally from beautiful Annapolis, Md., Justin Nurin holds the bachelor of music degree in trumpet performance from Boston University, masters of music from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and is currently pursuing a DMA at the Peabody Conservatory. His main trumpet instructors have included John Babcock, Joe Foley, Terry Everson, Stephen K. Bottom and Wayne Cameron. He has performed in many well-known venues including Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall, NYC; Symphony Hall and the Hatch Shell, Boston; the Lyric Opera House and Meyerhoff Hall, Baltimore; and the National Theatre, Washington, D.C.
     Mr. Nurin has performed with prominent ensembles such as the Naval Academy Band, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Czech Radio Symphony and Charleston Symphony Orchestra. Performances with regional ensembles have included the Central Florida Symphony Orchestra (assistant principal), Valdosta (Ga.) Symphony Orchestra,  The Orlando Chorale, the Honor Trumpet Ensemble to welcome Pope John Paul II to Baltimore, New England Youth Ensemble (principal) and the New England Intercollegiate Honor Band (assistant principal). Mr. Nurin has recorded with the University of Missouri Symphonic Wind Ensemble (solo cornet); American Story Teller, Chris Chandler; Three Percent, a local Boston rock band; fanfares for the Boston Celtics NBA team; and for EA Games' The Sims, wedding expansion pack.

      While earning his masters, he was a graduate teaching assistant, where his duties included teaching applied trumpet and playing in the professional touring Faculty Brass Quintet. He has taught privately in the Baltimore, Boston and Tampa areas and has school teaching experience in Revere, Mass., Annapolis, Md. and Tampa, Fl. He has adjudicated Maryland's All State Band and Orchestra auditions and solo and ensemble festival.

      Awards and honors include being first alternate (5th place) in the 2002 International Trumpet Guild Mock Orchestra Competition. He was a semi-finalist in the solo masters division of the 2002 and 2003 National Trumpet Competition. Also in 2003, he was principal trumpet of the Mizzou Trumpets that made the finals of the same competition's ensemble division.  In the spring of 2006, Mr. Nurin received a Career Development Award from Peabody Conservatory. That summer and the one following, he was invited to play in the AIMS Festival Orchestra in Graz, Austria, with concerts throughout the country.

      In addition to performance and teaching, Mr. Nurin has studied and has experience conducting many types of ensembles from small brass groups to full orchestras and choruses. He also enjoys keeping active by playing sports and traveling around the world, especially since he is fluent in Spanish. His favorite sports include soccer, lacrosse, hockey, water and snow skiing, and sailing, in which he has been an instructor.
